Famous playback singer and music director Bappi Lahiri passed away on February 15 at a private hospital in Mumbai. Bappi Lahiri was ill for a long time and was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday after his health deteriorated. Apart from many big personalities of Bollywood, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have expressed grief by tweeting on the death of Bappi Lahiri. Apart from Bappi Lahiri, many big stars of the film and television world have left us in the last one year.

    The film world got its first blow when ‘Fukrey’ fame actor Olanokyotan Golabo Lucas passed away on 16 January 2021. In the film Fukrey, Olanokyotan Golabo Lucas played the character of actress Richa Chadha’s (Bholi Punjaban) henchman. Bollywood celebrities including actors Farhan Akhtar and Pulkit Samrat mourned the demise of Olanokyotan Golabo Lucas.

    Renowned actor and Sharman Joshi’s father Arvind Joshi, who worked in films like ‘Sholay’, ‘Love Marriage’ and ‘Naam’, said goodbye to this world on January 29 at the age of 84. Arvind Joshi was battling neurological problems and chest infection for a long time. Arvind Joshi was also a big name of Gujarati cinema. Apart from Sharman Joshi, Arvind Joshi’s sister Sarita Joshi is also associated with Bollywood and her daughter Mansi is also a TV actress.

    Veteran singer Narendra Chanchal, who created a different identity in the whole world with his bhajans, died on January 22 this year at the age of 80. Narendra Chanchal was very ill and was undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital for about two months. His songs ‘Chalo Bulawa Aaya Hai’ for the film ‘Avatar’ and ‘Beshak Mandir Masjid Todo’ from the film ‘Bobby’ are still remembered.     Not even a year had passed for Bollywood veteran actor Rishi Kapoor that on 9 February 2021, his younger brother actor and filmmaker Rajeev Kapoor died of a heart attack. 58-year-old Rajeev Kapoor worked in Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Tulsidas Junior’ as his last film, but he said goodbye to the world even before the film was released. Rajiv Kapoor, who started his career with the film ‘Ek Jaan Hai Hum’, got his real recognition in Bollywood from the film ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’.

    On February 15 this year, a very shocking news came from Bollywood when actor Sandeep Nahar committed suicide at his home. Sandeep Nahar was seen in the film ‘Kesari’ with actor Akshay Kumar and in the film ‘MS Dhoni’ with Sushant Singh Rajput. Before the suicide, Sandeep Nahar also uploaded a suicide note and video on his Facebook, in which he allegedly blamed his wife and also mentioned politics in Bollywood.

    Veteran actor and director Tariq Shah, who acted in films like ‘Bahar Aane Tak’, ‘Gumnaam Hai Koi’ and ‘Mumbai Central’, also said goodbye to the world on April 3 this year. Tariq Shah was suffering from kidney problems for the last almost 2 years and was on dialysis. Apart from acting in films, Tariq Shah also directed the TV serial Kadwa Sach and the film Janam Kundali starring Vinod Khanna, Jitendra. He was married to actress Shoma Anand in 1987.

    The very next day after Tariq Shah’s death, another bad news came from Bollywood, when veteran actress Shashikala passed away on 4th April. Shashikal had worked in more than 100 films in his career. His memorable films were Daku, Raasta, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2007 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 for Sasikala’s significant contribution to Hindi films.

    Actor Satish Kaul, who played the role of Lord Indra in the historical TV serial ‘Mahabharata’, left the world on April 10 this year. Satish Kaul, who has worked in several Hindi and Punjabi films, was infected with the corona virus, after which his condition continued to deteriorate. Satish Kaul had sold his Mumbai apartment in 2011 to open an acting school in Ludhiana, but due to the failure of the project, he was in financial trouble.

    Apart from Satish Kaul, Corona virus snatched another Bollywood actress from us this year. Actress Rinku Singh, who worked with Ayushmann Khurrana in the film Dream Girl, died on June 4 due to corona infection. On the demise of Tarla Joshi, her co-star Nia, actor Anju Mahendra and the entire team of EHMMBH expressed their grief on social media.

    This year on June 7, Saeed Sabri, father of the famous Sabri Brothers and veteran Qawwali singer Saeed Sabri left this world. 85-year-old Saeed Sabri had a heart attack while taking a bath in the bathroom, after which he died on the way to the hospital. Significantly, Saeed Sabri had made a lot of headlines with the song ‘Ek Mulakat Zaroori Hai Sanam’ and ‘Der Na Ho Jaye Kahin Der Na Ho Jaye’ for the film Heena.

    This year, Bollywood got a big shock when Sehar Ali Latif, who worked as a casting director in big films like ‘Monsoon Shootout’ and ‘Lunch Box’, said goodbye to this world. Sehar Ali Latif died on 7 June due to cardiac arrest. Sehar Ali Latif also produced Bhaag Bini Bhaag on Netflix, starring Swara Bhaskar.

    Recently, the film world got a big shock when Raj Kaushal, husband of actress Mandira Bedi, passed away on June 30 due to a heart attack. Raj Kaushal was a big name in Bollywood and had directed films like ‘Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi’, ‘Shaadi Ka Laddu’ and ‘Anthony Kaun Hai’. On the death of Raj Kaushal, many celebrities of the film world expressed their grief on social media.

    Bollywood suffered a major setback when veteran actor Dilip Kumar, popularly known as ‘Tragedy King’, passed away on July 7. Dilip Kumar, who was ill for a long time, was admitted to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai, where he breathed his last. However, a day before this, his wife actress Shayra Banu, while giving his health update, told that Dilip Kumar’s health is slowly improving and he will soon be discharged from the hospital. Doctors at Cooper Hospital in Mumbai told that Siddharth Shukla had taken some medicine before sleeping and he was found dead in the morning. After this, a statement was issued by the hospital that he died due to heart attack. Siddharth Shukla is survived by his mother and two sisters.

    Actor Puneeth Rajkumar, known as the ‘Power Star’ of Kannada cinema, passed away on 29 October. Puneet Rajukmar, 46, was admitted to Vikram Hospital after complaining of chest pain, where he succumbed. According to doctors, Puneet Rajkumar had a heart attack. Such was the craze of his fans for Puneet Rajkumar that after his death, a high alert was declared all over Karnataka.

    The year 2021 proved to be inauspicious for the film world, while on the way, it gave a big blow to Bollywood. Actor Brahma Mishra, who shot to fame playing Lalit in the web series Mirzapur, passed away on December 2. Brahma Mishra’s body was found in a decomposed condition in his flat located in Mumbai’s Versova area. Brahma Mishra had also worked with Akshay Kumar in the film Kesari and Manjhi with Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

    Actor Arun Verma, who has worked in several big films like ‘Kick’ and ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, passed away on January 20 after a prolonged illness. Arun Verma, 62, was admitted to a private hospital in Bhopal, where he breathed his last. Arun Verma had a blockage in his brain, due to which some other parts of his body stopped working.

    In the year 2022, bad news came from Bollywood when veteran actor Ramesh Dev said goodbye to this world. On February 2, 93-year-old Ramesh Dev died due to a heart attack. Ramesh Dev had also worked with Rajesh Khanna in the film ‘Anand’, which proved to be quite a hit. Many big personalities of Bollywood expressed grief by tweeting on the death of Ramesh Dev.

    Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar, popularly known as Swar Kokila and awarded Bharat Ratna, passed away on Sunday (February 6). Lata Mangeshkar was ill for a long time and was undergoing treatment at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. In her music career spanning over 7 decades, Lata Mangeshkar gave the film world some unforgettable songs for which she will always be remembered.

    The film and TV industry got a big shock in the year 2022 when actor Praveen Kumar Sobti, who played the role of Bhima in the Mahabharata serial, died of a heart attack on 7 February. Praveen Kumar was also a well-known athlete of his time and represented India in many international competitions. Praveen Kumar won four medals including two gold in the Asian Games.
